Babe Ruth wishes "Season's Greetings" to all neighbors in the Jungle Country Club subdivision, also known as the Azalea neighborhood. Ruth left footprints all over the neighborhood while playing more than one hundred rounds on the Jungle golf course in the 1920's and 30's. He frequently stayed overnight at the Jungle Hotel (now Admiral Farragut Academy).
Golf was an important part of his pre-season conditioning program. He often arrived in St. Petersburg weeks before the official beginning of spring training, playing two rounds of golf a day on the Jungle course - rain or shine - to get in shape. He was also known to play the Jungle course after a day of baseball practice.
A Jungle Country Club trophy won by Babe Ruth is enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown - and the trophy is sponsored by this blog, The Jungle Country Club History Project.
