1926 Aerial Photograph of Jungle Neighborhood

A 1926 aerial photograph of the Jungle section of St. Petersburg shows the outline of the Jungle Golf Course with fairways in light gray (east/right side of photo), wooded areas and lakes are dark, sandy areas are light (see the shoreline of Boca Ciega Bay along the west/left side of the photo). Parallel to the shoreline, the two brick lanes of Park Street are visible. At the time, trolley tracks ran down the center of Park Street.

Aerial photo with labels. On the far right are the Seaboard Air Line Railroad tracks, now paved and part of the Pinellas Trail.

Black and white image colorized by Image Colorization API. The colorization program makes educated guesses for color conversion and doesn't always convert accurately. In this case, the colorized version looks almost like an aerial night photo and the colors visually enhance the shades of gray.

Here is the circa 1920 plat book map of the golf course superimposed on the aerial photo. Note: the Jungle Club Hotel was not built until 1925, the plat book map does not show the hotel, but shows the clubhouse which was south of the hotel location.

Trolley tracks can be seen running down the middle of Park Street in this vintage photo of Walter P. Fuller's home at 450 Park Street N. (Credit: St. Petersburg Museum of History). In the aerial photos above, Park Street is visible as a two-lane brick road with a center median. The trolley's jungle line ended at the Jungle Prado building.
