Jungle Country Club Creek Update as of 8/9/2022

8/9/2022:
The signs have been installed at Farragut Drive and 9th Av and 13th Av!

Farragut and 13th Av N

8/3/2022:
The signs are now in St. Petersburg's sign department with installation expected prior to August 13th.

7/30/2022:
The first set of signs were damaged during shipping. The replacement signs are now ready, so they are expected to be installed in time for the August 13th unveiling ceremony.

7/15/2022:
The new signs have been ordered from the manufacturer. They should be here in St. Pete in about a week, ready to be installed by the city.

6/19/2022:
The grant application has been approved by St. Pete Community Services and the agreement form has been signed by the Azalea Neighborhood Association. Signs will be purchased and manufactured soon. City of St. Pete traffic operations will install signs at 9th Av and 13th Av prior to "Jungle Country Club Creek Day" on 8/13/2022 (if all goes as planned).

6/10/2022:
The grant application has been mailed to Community Services.

6/6/2022:
I made a presentation at the Azalea neighborhood meeting and received approval to apply for a mini-grant with the city. The application will be for $350.92, to cover the cost of signs and installation. If the application is approved, there will be no cost to the association. The grant application form has a question concerning how the "event" will promote community building. It seems that the city is expecting an event, so I had the membership vote on celebrating "Jungle Country Club Creek Day" on August 13. Both motions ‒ to apply for the grant and to hold the event ‒ were unanimously approved by the membership. I will mail the grant request to the city as soon as I have the signatures of the board members.

5/21/2022:
This week, St. Petersburg's traffic division visited the creek to look at possible sign locations. On 9th Av N, it was recommended that the sign be placed on the north side of the avenue. The 13th Av N sign location, as pictured below, seems to be acceptable to them. We are expecting an estimate from traffic and engineering for installation costs soon. This will help us to complete the grant request.

5/14/2022:
The City of St. Petersburg's Community Services Division has recommended that we apply for their mini-grant program to have the signs manufactured and installed. The mini-grant program provides up to $500 for an event that encourages community building.
Each sign costs about $125. It is my understanding that the grant money may be used for the signs, installation costs (through the city' traffic sign department), and permitting, if needed. With those expenses, we could be under the $500 grant. I will be making a presentation to discuss this at the June 6th Azalea Neighborhood Association meeting and to get approval from the association to move forward with the grant request.

This sign is a prototype. A different style and graphic may be used.
