From the day that I started writing this blog three years ago, I have been in search of a scorecard for the Jungle golf course. In the meantime, I gathered all the information I could find and made a up a faux scorecard which was posted here.
The Jungle Country Club Hotel (now Admiral Farragut Academy) and the Jungle Golf Course were in the current day Azalea neighborhood. For most of the 11 seasons that Babe Ruth was in St. Petersburg for spring training, he would arrive a month early to play 36 holes of golf each day, usually on the Jungle course. Images of the greatest celebrity of the Roaring Twenties golfing here were published in newspapers and seen on newsreels across the country, making the Jungle Country Club nationally famous.
A reader of this blog was looking through some of her father-in-law's mementos and found the historic scorecard from 1934. Her father-in-law was John Buchanan, a golf pro at the Jungle course and someone who played many rounds of golf with Babe Ruth.
BUT IT GETS MUCH BETTER... Babe Ruth is one of the players on the valuable scorecard.
